Victor Mugabe

December 11, 2025

Victor Mugabe is a Ugandan filmmaker, writer, and video editor whose work delves into themes of empowerment, African culture, and political commentary, often explored through comedy, fantasy, and drama. With a keen interest in storytelling that brings order to chaos, he crafts narratives that challenge societal norms while remaining deeply engaging and thought-provoking.

His filmmaking journey has been shaped by mentorship under the Sisi Film Lab at Dilstories Studio, where he developed and directed Red and Yellow (2024) and Under the Bed (2024). These films, alongside his work on A Thousand Ways to Face Change, showcase his ability to weave complex themes into visually compelling stories. His storytelling prowess extends beyond film into television, where he has contributed as a staff writer for The Uncles (Bish Films) and as the head writer for The Muchwezi, a blog-based web series.

In addition to filmmaking, Victor has explored storytelling through the webcomic ME ME ME, a narrative tackling mental health themes. His work reflects a dedication to blending traditional oral storytelling techniques with contemporary film and media, creating an experience that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.

As the writer and director of Dear Darling, Victor brings a deeply personal perspective to the project. Inspired by his own struggles with anhedonia and reflections on life’s purpose, he crafts a film that fuses spoken word, hip-hop, and poetry to explore themes of grief, loneliness, and self-discovery. With a signature blend of rhythm, humor, and raw emotion, Victor aims to create a film that not only resonates with audiences but also sparks introspection on the changes they make in their own lives.

Through Dear Darling, he seeks to push the boundaries of Ugandan cinema, infusing it with musical storytelling elements that pay homage to Africa’s rich oral traditions while embracing the evolving landscape of global filmmaking.

Red and Yellow

Red and Yellow is a story featuring the household disagreement between husband and wife, Gideon and Martha. During a brief stalemate, the two are forced into peace talks. Where their radical dynamics are explored. Petty shenanigans, rude remarks and comedic moments evolve from the moment.

As a youth in Uganda, watching Parliamentary sessions today feels like watching a couple having a fight. Gideon and Martha are a reflection of the dance taking place on Uganda’s political landscape. It is intimate, tastelessly crude with a hint of blind affection held by the two.

Under The Bed

How much can one indulge before they succumb to the tyranny of the unknown?
Its the edge of a lockdown and Becky has run out of food, only to discover the presence of an unknown entity under her bed. One that is open to negotiations in order to keep its new domicile.

A Thousand Ways to Face Change

A family drama following Lutalo as she tries to reconcile her position in life as the third wife to Paul, a man on a mission to get children after having failed to conceive from his first two wives. Paul decides to solve his predicament by becoming a strict Christian; and that only means staying with one wife.
