My journey with film began on the makeshift stage of my lower secondary school. I remember the rush of adrenaline as I took on roles in class plays, losing myself in characters that shaped me to become who I am. I remember acting as a grandfather. During this role I became the best actor during the MDD competitions at school. With each performance, I gained confidence and honed my craft. Being acknowledged as one of the best actors in my class was exhilarating, but it was the applause, the laughter, and the tears from my peers that truly sparked my passion for storytelling. Those childhood moments on stage laid the foundation for my love affair with film, shaping my imagination and fostering a deep appreciation for the power of cinematic storytelling.
Born from the rhythmic heartbeat of Bamasaba, my music embodies the essence of African storytelling. Growing up surrounded by the tales of my community, I learned to harness the power of melody to convey emotions, struggles, and triumphs. My artistic journey has taken me to esteemed national and international festivals, where I’ve shared stages with fellow visionaries. Awards and accolades have recognized my dedication to crafting authentic African soundscapes. These inspirations have always pushed and inspired me to compile 5 Albums.
My fascination with film began long before memories could form. As a child, movies weren’t just entertainment – they were my escape, education, and inspiration.
I one-time recall sneaking into video halls, my heart racing with excitement, as I indulged in cinematic treasures. Those visits were often cut short, though, when my father would arrive, concerned about the hall’s reputation as a hideout for troublemakers. The price of getting caught. A gentle, yet firm, tug on my ears ha-ha, it’s a memory that still makes me laugh
Despite the risks, my love for film only grew stronger. With each passing frame, I found solace, discovered new perspectives, and nurtured my imagination. Those early, secretive cinema moments sparked a lifelong passion, transforming me into a film enthusiast forever captivated by the silver screens.
Jabbi, a close friend and fellow film enthusiast, introduced me to Sisi Film Lab. His social media posts and personal recommendations ignited my interest in this groundbreaking initiative, fostering African storytelling and cinematic excellence.”
The Sisi Film Lab training was a game-changer – the missing piece that completed the puzzle. For the first time, I had the opportunity to write, direct, and edit a short film, culminating in the production of ‘Dead Cat. Watching my finished work brings a smile to my face, knowing that this project marked the beginning of my film journey. The training not only equipped me with hands-on skills but also ignited a sense of creative confidence. Those class screenings were invaluable, not just for feedback but also for laughter. When I accidentally left a boom mic in frame, my peers playfully roasted me. Their jokes still resonate, reminding me of the journey and creative growth we shared.
Having successfully completed my film training at Sisi Film Lab, I am eager to embark on a transformative journey as a filmmaker. With a solid foundation in storytelling, directing, and editing, I am confident that my skills will enable me to make a meaningful impact on the African film industry. I expect to channel my creativity into crafting compelling narratives that showcase African talent, culture, and experiences. Telling stories that resonate with diverse audiences, sparking conversations, and challenging perspectives.
Through my films, I hope to celebrate African heritage, explore complex social issues, and inspire positive change. As a filmmaker, I anticipate collaborating with fellow industry professionals on impactful projects that showcase African creativity and innovation. By building strong relationships within the industry, I aim to contribute to the growth and recognition of African cinema globally.
My filmmaking journey will be a continuous journey to explore various genres, themes, and styles, refining my craft through experimentation and learning from failures. As I establish myself, I envision creating opportunities for young filmmakers and support to help them navigate the industry.
Ultimately, leaving a legacy in African cinema, inspiring a new wave of filmmakers to tell authentic, captivating stories is the desire that keeps burning. My expectations are rooted in a passion for storytelling, creative expression, and industry impact. With dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn, I am confident that I will make a meaningful contribution to African cinema, inspiring audiences and empowering fellow filmmakers. Next year I hope to visit schools and startup film clubs. During these moments, I want to share the skill with the young people across the region.
